Ingentia Energies Shares Blueprint for Success at NUPRC Onboarding Workshop

Fresh from its milestone achievement of becoming the first indigenous company from the 2022 Marginal Field Bid Round to successfully convert Petroleum Prospecting License (PPL) 202 into Petroleum Mining Lease (PML) 66, Ingentia Energies Limited was invited by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) to participate in its onboarding workshop held yesterday for holders of licenses awarded under the 2022/2023 Mini Bid Round and the 2024 Licensing Round. The invitation recognized Ingentia Energies' remarkable progress and positioned the company as a practical example of how indigenous operators can successfully navigate the journey from license acquisition to field development and production.

Representing the company, Engr. Victor Agbaroji, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Ingentia Energies Limited, delivered a presentation on the theme, "From Award to First Oil: What Does It Take to Deliver?" Addressing the newly awarded license holders, Agbaroji congratulated the participants and shared valuable insights drawn from Ingentia Energies' own experience. He urged operators to remain disciplined in their investment decisions, emphasizing the importance of pursuing opportunities that can be successfully commercialized.

During his presentation, Agbaroji highlighted the critical economic, technical and commercial evaluations that licensees must undertake to establish project viability and progress towards a robust FID prior to final investment decisions. He stressed that achieving first oil requires more than securing an asset; it demands a clear commercial pathway, agile execution philosophy and sustainable financing. Reflecting on the factors behind Ingentia Energies' success, several key enablers that contributed to the company's transition from PPL holder to PML holder were identified. These included strong stakeholder alignment, constructive engagement and support from the Commission, and a deliberate strategy of leveraging industry intelligence and technical learnings. Ingentia carefully reviewed available geological and technical data, studied development concepts adopted in comparable assets, and assessed similarities and differentiators that could strengthen its own development approach. According to him, these insights helped shape a winning strategy that ultimately facilitated the conversion to PML 66.

Agbaroji emphasized the importance of a clear commercialization strategy, noting that operators must focus on translating hydrocarbon resources into tangible economic value further highlighting  the need for effective collaboration, access to the right technical expertise, decisive leadership, speed in execution, and the ability to seize opportunities as they emerge. Among his key recommendations to the awardees were the importance of being intentional in planning, maintaining execution discipline, building competent multidisciplinary teams, and securing reliable funding capable of supporting project milestones from appraisal through development.

As one of the success stories emerging from the post-Petroleum Industry Act licensing era, Ingentia Energies continues to demonstrate that with strategic thinking, technical excellence and strong stakeholder collaboration, indigenous companies can accelerate the journey from opportunity to production.
