Exploration/Production Seismologist
Lagos | on site | Deadline: 13th March, 2025
About the job
As the Seismologist, your role would be to interpret geophysical data including 2D/3D and 4D seismic data to generate integrated predictive subsurface/geophysical models to address/resolve hydrocarbon exploration, development and production challenges. S/he will conduct and participate in Integrated Field Development studies to meet Reserves Replacement targets and the anticipated Oil & Gas production growth in IEL’s operated field by utilising the appropriate technology and best practices to reduce time, and costs and improve quality and standards. Also, S/he will incorporate multi-disciplinary subsurface data to improve the understanding of the producing reservoirs/fields and identify near-field exploration prospects within IEL’s concession. Adequate exposure and competence in areas of geophysical/geological/reservoir studies, uncertainties management processes and hands-on competence in the use of geophysical applications (for seismic interpretation and static reservoir modelling) are necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities
- You should be familiar with the fundamentals of all Petroleum Geology specialists’ areas (especially exploration and development seismology, production and reservoir Geology) and hands-on ability in the use of geophysical applications and software (e.g., S&P Global Kingdom suite, Petrel, and similar seismic interpretation tools).
- You will apply state-of-the-art interpretation and evaluation technology to deliver integrated, predictive subsurface/geophysical models in line with the industry's best practices.
- You will Identify, quantify and manage field and reservoir uncertainties and formulate strategies for mitigating these.
- You will demonstrate an above-average knowledge of reservoir geological processes and how they impact hydrocarbon development and production.
- You will be responsible for producing time and depth structure maps, fault interpretation and appropriate seismic attributes as inputs into all agreed studies on time while optimising cost without compromising quality.
- You will participate in subsurface reservoir studies aimed at constructing and/or improving subsurface models that will deliver a robust and technically sound understanding of the subsurface.
- You will contribute towards well proposals and end-of-well reports of development and appraisal wells by ensuring that well proposals have a solid geophysical basis.
- You will contribute to well delivery and reduction of drilling risks by providing accurate prognosis of geological information/boundaries (in time and depth), potential drilling hazards and advice during drilling.
- You will deliver first-class geological/geophysical support to operations, drilling and workover, etc.
- You will participate in peer reviews, and technical meetings, make valuable contributions; and write and publish asset-approved technical paper/s.
- You will identify and recommend appropriate third-party technology/studies required to reduce or mitigate items on the subsurface risk register.
- You will supervise and monitor studies carried out on behalf of the company by third-party consultants including seismic data reprocessing.
- You will coach and mentor less experienced seismologists in the team.
- You will represent the company as the subject matter expert on issues relating to Exploration and Production seismology
